Lutheran By Choice
What's so important about October 31st 1517 AD? Why do Lutherans make a big deal about this date? It's simple. A man dared to challenge the the status quo of the church in an era where that was a very dangerous undertaking. It was time to expose things that were going on in the church that were not sanctioned in the Word of God. Martin Luther held up the Word of God to the church of his day and dared to compare the standards of the church with the standard of God given to Christians for all time in the Holy Bible. This reformation starts with 95 sentences and through many trials it blesses future generations with The Book of Concord. A document written by the church for the church so that it would be able to see a doctrinal standard that is in agreement with the Word of God.
Martin Luther’s Heidelberg Disputation in May 1518 Thesis 26 states…
The law says, “Do this,” and it is never done.
Grace says, “believe in this,” and everything is already done.
After you muse over these words a while it puts our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in proper perspective. We can do nothing. God in His mercy has done everything. All praise to God!
